Fiery Sunset Rainbow

The sky was looking weird last night and we decided at the last minute to check out the sunset. Wow and I glad we did.

Hikshari’ Trailhead, Eureka, California 8-14-23.

The sun was already dropping behind the marine layer when we arrived, but looking back east, there was a stunning rainbow, wreathed in fiery red clouds (possibly smoke from the fires in Maui?)

At times, we could see the full arc of the rainbow 😍

Those clouds almost look like a dragon with a rainbow for a spine 😲

The sky to the west was rather stunning as well

There was also a hint of a double bow at times.

I’m not sure what caused these patches of light in clouds… very striking!

The western sky also continued to evolve 🤩

A few more of the rainbow, before it dissipated. Again, I have no explanation for the light…

Then the western sky took over the show

And then it started raining 🤣

Wow, what a night, I’ve never seen anything like this before 🤩
